Does insurance cover the treatment?

Montana Medicaid covers mental health care, including psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and therapy, and it covers those services delivered by video. We are enrolled as a Montana Medicaid provider and we accept it for all of them. Coverage for specific services can vary, and we confirm what applies to you when we check your coverage.

Our Approach

Do I Need a Psychiatrist or a Therapist?

Short answer:if you think medication might be part of the picture, start with a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. If you mainly want to talk something through, start with a therapist. If you are not sure, start anywhere and we will help you sort it out.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health. Psychiatrists diagnoseconditions and prescribe medication.

A psychiatricnurse practitioner also evaluates, diagnoses, and prescribes medication.

A physicianassistant working in psychiatry evaluates, diagnoses, and prescribes medication as part of the care team. Some hold a Certificate of Added Qualification in Psychiatry, which is specialty certification beyond the PA license.

A therapistor counselor provides talk therapy. Therapists do not prescribe medicationin Montana.

A psychologist has a doctorate in psychology. Psychologists provide therapy and psychological testing, and in Montana they do not prescribe.

Plenty ofpeople work with both a prescriber and a therapist at the same time. That is often the most effective combination, and we offer both, so you are not managing two practices that never talk to each other.
